Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Dudley Safes?

Dudley Safes Limited, founded in 1982, is a leading UK manufacturer and supplier of high-security safes. Our product range includes free-standing cash safes, underfloor safes, wall safes, security cabinets, and bespoke custom safes.

What assurance do I have about the quality of Dudley Safes?

Many of our products meet ISO 9001:2015 standards. Our Eurograde safes (Grade 0-5) are LPCB certified to EN1143-1, and many models are AiS approved by the Association of Insurance Surveyors.

What does the cash rating on a safe mean?

The cash rating is the maximum value of cash that an insurer will cover when stored in that safe. It is determined by the safe's Eurograde certification. For example, a Grade 0 safe has a cash rating of £6,000, while a Grade 5 safe has a cash rating of £100,000.

What does the valuables or jewellery rating mean?

The valuables rating — sometimes called the jewellery rating — is typically 10 times the cash rating. This is because non-cash valuables such as jewellery are considered lower risk by insurers. For example, a Grade 0 safe rated at £6,000 cash is typically rated at £60,000 for valuables.

What are the cash and valuables ratings for each Eurograde safe?

The insurance ratings for each Dudley Eurograde safe are as follows:

  • Grade 0: £6,000 cash / £60,000 valuables
  • Grade 1: £10,000 cash / £100,000 valuables
  • Grade 2: £17,500 cash / £175,000 valuables
  • Grade 3: £35,000 cash / £350,000 valuables
  • Grade 4: £60,000 cash / £600,000 valuables
  • Grade 5: £100,000 cash / £1,000,000 valuables

What does LPCB certified mean?

LPCB stands for Loss Prevention Certification Board. It is an independent body that tests and certifies security products against recognised standards. LPCB certification means a safe has been independently tested and verified to meet the claimed security grade — it is not self-certified by the manufacturer.

What does AiS approved mean and why does it matter?

AiS stands for the Association of Insurance Surveyors. AiS approval means the safe meets the requirements of UK insurers and will be accepted when making an insurance claim. Without AiS approval, your insurer may not honour a claim even if the safe appears to meet the required grade.

What is the difference between EN1143-1 and EN14450 certifications?

EN1143-1 certification applies to high-security Eurograde safes (Grade 0-5) tested for resistance to burglary attacks, suitable for commercial and high-risk environments. EN14450 certification covers S1 and S2 security containers, which offer a lower level of protection and are better suited to domestic and small business use.

How do I know what grade of safe my insurer requires?

Your insurer will specify the minimum cash rating required based on the value of items you wish to cover. Check your policy documents or contact your insurer directly. As a guide, Eurograde cash ratings range from £6,000 for a Grade 0 up to £100,000 for a Grade 5.

What types of safes does Dudley Safes offer?

We offer a wide range of safes including EN1143-1 Eurograde safes (Grade 0-5), EN14450 S1 and S2 certified safes, heavy-duty storage safes, security cabinets, deposit safes, and bespoke custom safes.

What is a rotary deposit safe?

A rotary deposit safe has a drum mechanism integrated into the top of the safe. Items such as cash pouches or parcels are placed into the drum and rotated into the safe body without opening the main door, making it ideal for retail and hospitality environments where frequent deposits are made.

What is a capsule deposit safe?

A capsule deposit safe uses a tube and capsule system to deposit cash or documents securely without opening the main door. Each safe comes with six capsules as standard. The deposit point can be positioned on the top, rear, or side of the safe.

What is a letter slot deposit safe?

A letter slot deposit safe has a narrow slot — standard opening 150mm x 25mm — through which documents, envelopes, or thin items can be deposited without opening the main door. The slot can be positioned on the top, rear, or side of the safe.

What lock options do Dudley Safes provide?

Our locks include key locks, basic digital locks, multi-user digital locks with time delay and audit trail capabilities, and mechanical combination locks. Higher grade safes typically require more sophisticated locking mechanisms as standard.

Can a Dudley Safe be bolted to the floor or wall?

Yes. Most Dudley Safes include fixing points to allow floor or wall anchoring. For Eurograde safes, anchoring is strongly recommended and may be required by your insurer to validate the cash rating.

What sizes are available?

Dudley Safes are available in a wide range of sizes. Grade 0 and Grade 1 are available in 8 sizes, Grade 2 and Grade 3 in 9 sizes, and Grade 4 and Grade 5 in 6 sizes. S1 and S2 safes are available in 9 sizes. Custom sizes can also be manufactured on request.

What fire protection features are available?

Our safes offer fire protection ranging from 25 to 75 minutes depending on the model. Grade 0 to Grade 3 safes offer up to 45 minutes of fire protection, while Grade 4 and Grade 5 offer up to 75 minutes.
